An inventory only stays true if updating it is easier than not bothering. Siri can record two things for you without opening the app: something you moved, and something you just added.
Record a move
- Say “Hey Siri, I moved my passport in Vorby.”
- Siri asks “Where did you put it?”
- Answer with a room or a specific spot: “the office” or “the filing cabinet.”
- Siri confirms: “Passport is now in Office, in Filing cabinet.”
“I put my drill away in Vorby” and “move my drill in Vorby” do the same thing.
Two rules worth knowing
- Name a room and the specific spot is cleared. If the passport was filed under Office · Filing cabinet and you say you moved it to the office, Vorby records Office, because you just told it the cabinet may no longer be true.
- Name a spot and the room comes with it. Say “the top drawer” and the item lands in that drawer and in the room the drawer belongs to.
- Say the same move twice and the second one changes nothing. Siri tells you it was already there, and your items list does not reshuffle.
Add an item
- Say “Hey Siri, I put something in my garage in Vorby.”
- Siri asks “What did you add?”
- Say the name: “a cordless drill.”
- Siri confirms: “Added Cordless drill to Garage.”
“I added something to my garage in Vorby” and “add an item to my garage in Vorby” work the same way. You can answer with a specific spot instead of a room, and the item lands in both.
The name is tidied up gently: “a cordless drill” is saved as “Cordless drill.” Brand names keep their own capitals, so “an iPhone charger” stays “iPhone charger.”
What a voice add records
A spoken add saves a name and a place, and nothing else. Open the item later to add a photo, a price, a category, or a warranty. On the item’s detail screen, Added Via reads Siri, so you can see how it got there.
